Today we went on a tour of the Temple of Heaven.  Outside of the temple area there was a park with local people doing all kinds of things.  Tai-chi, playing hackey sack, singing and dancing were just a few. Afterwards we took a rickshaw tour down the Hutong.  Hutong means alley way.  This used to be a common type of housing community in Beijing but many of them have been torn down to make room for high-rise buildings.  Very interesting.
The best entertainment of the day was a trip to a local supermarket. We had fun walking down the aisles looking for familiar labeling of products we could recognize. Of course Pat had to go and check out the weird stuff in the meat dept.

On the plane yesterday, as we were flying over Siberia, a lady in first class seating was having medical issues.
The flight attendant was going up and down the aisle asking if there was a Dr. on board.  We were getting a little nervous because we kept thinking, "Oh great, what if we have to make an emergency landing in Siberia (of all places)"    It turned out to be somthing that had to be looked at by a Dr. but she could stay on the plane till we got to China.  That was a good thing!

We flew over the polar icecap, which was pretty neat.  Miles and miles of ice!  I tried to take a pic from the window but we were over the wing and could not get a good shot.

Random thoughts this morning.....

Chinese toilet paper is like sandpaper (if you can even find any)

Dont worry if your dinner still has its head on, you can always cover it up with what ever little garnish they have added to your dinner plate.  That way you wont feel like you are being stared at while you are eating.  (except for the waitresses standing in the corner laughing at you while you try to use your chopsticks.)

Chinese people here seem very polite and gracious.  So far the only rude people I have witnessed were Americans (at the airport)  Thank goodness none of them were with our group......
Sigining off......
