Travel Journal: Day 3
Well, yesterday was very exciting and exhausting. We went to Tian’an men Square, the Great Wall and the Forbidden city. While we were in the square, a protester rushed Chairmen Mao’s tombs and seven guards took him down. I didn’t get to witness this but one of our travel mates got it on tape.
Great wall was fun but I was disappointed that it was such a hazy day, our pictures didn’t turn out as nice as I had hoped. I went up about a half a mile. Half a mile straight up is all that I could physically do. Most of the steps are about 18” inches tall, and some are only 4-6”. They are very uneven, which made it very difficult to climb. Pat went up more than a mile, because he wanted to get the t-shirt that you get up at the top (he thought it was only available at the top). I got tired of waiting for him to come down, so I came down and went to the gift shop and bought one for me. When he came down without one (because the ones at the top were cheap and cheesy) and saw that I had one, he was not happy. He did all the work, and came out empty handed. So I pointed him and his friend to the gift shop. Pretty funny!
They were still happy that they chose to go all the way up…..what an experience.
Today (Tuesday, which is Monday night for you) we will have Hannah in our arms. We are so excited!! Today a little girl who has not had a mommy or daddy for the last 9 months will finally get one, and for us our long wait will be over…..
God is good!!!
Pat’s 2 cents
Yesterday is day I will remember forever. While I thoroughly enjoyed Tian’an men Square and the Forbidden City it was the great Wall that I will have the fondest memories of. It is something you actually have to see to believe. I climbed as high as I could but coming down was actually much harder than going up. Well I need to go we leave in about an hour for our flight to go get Hannah. WOW. |
